Anyone got a continuous payment ( not direct debit / standing order ) on any goods or services - eg insurance renewal ?

Is it a good thing to have ?

For insurance I prefer annual renewal review so I can the best rate.

Can't think why I would use it instead of standing order or direct debit

The providers who offer this ( in the case of insurance ) says it ensures you are always covered in case you forget
Bazile they hope you forget then will automatically up your premium by 20%. I change insurance companies every year to get the best deals going.
I won't go near it.
Not sure how anyone could forget to renew their insurance - reminders are sent are least two weeks before the renewal date.
I did have continuous payments set up when I was abroad a lot for peace of mind. I didn't have any problems with them and they were easy to cancel
I renewed my car insurance yesterday when I got the reminder and the new quote - £11 cheaper than last year and at least £100 cheaper than the cheapest on the comparison sites.
I always check my policies before renewal and also choose which credit card has the best loyalty offer to pay on.
They did used to be problematic to cancel but the law has changed and the banks must cancel them on your request and if they take any further payments the banks must refund you.
Don't touch it! I did it once, (by accident of not ticking the box that said I didn't want it), and it was a right palaver to eventually get it cancelled.
I've changed from AA insurance as from 7 May. I've advised them not to auto-renew (credit card) but not had any reply. Bit worried that they will take the payment & it will be a tussle trying to get it back!
Has APG says. Its just another way these sharks came up with to try and rip you off, but make out their doing it for you by saying, Just in case you forget to renew, we will renew for you. Ha Ha, As if they ever forgot to remind you in the past so they didn't lose your business. I have Norton protection on my computer as a added protection along with one that's supplied by my bank, some may say that I don't need Norton but I've always found it to be very good weeding out the most difficult crap that goes on these days. But every year they try a renew it themselves by continuous payment, the price is always £69, I then cancel it, and they then come back to me two days before it runs out offering it for £25. Same thing for the last 5 years. :0)

Got some quotes for my car insurance renewal from those comparison sites

There are some cheaper ones than my renewal but they are from companies some of which I've never heard of before -

Go Skippy
Vavista
Budget
Dial direct
Auto net

I'm just wondering if I should risk it and go with one of these - I wonder what their customer service is like , when you have to make a claim etc ?

What do you think ?
Have a look for customer reviews (trustpilot?).

Cheapest for me came up as Hastings Direct which is well known. But I think with any insurer you will get people who have had good & bad experience so good & bad reviews.
I dont for insurance - having worked in finance all my life I dont trust them.

I do use it for my M365, Last Pass & GoDaddy Server and domains though
Mostly the good reviews will be about how easy it was to arrange the insurance (i.e. take your money) whereas the bad reviews will be about claims (i.e. getting money back from them) !!!!!!!!!!!
Bazile, Whoever they will all try and rip you off at some time or another. Put it like this, its law to have insurance, and most of the time they write cars off opposed to expensive repair, get on the road for as cheap as possible.

Having said they are cheaper they all have compulsory excesses from £100 up to £295 in addition to my voluntary excess of £100

It's a bit of s dilemma
Go Compare say they will cover your excess up to £250 if you have used their site to find the insurer.

There must be a catch in the small print
That's what I'm thinking but I don't intend to have an accident just to find out!
