Motor Insurance - No Claims Discount Question

Friend of mine has had a knock in her car in the past few months, which she fully accepts as her fault, as she rear-ended another car. Other driver claimed, she didn't.

Up to last renewal she had 5 years NCD for her comprehensive policy but did NOT take out NCD protection.

Question is how much of her NCD will she lose? Will it be one year (i.e. she will stay on 5 years) or will it be lost completely??

Thanks for your time.

Yes, typically one or two years lost....but she may also find that the basic premium will be higher on renewal, because a claim has been made (and they see her as a greater risk).

She will have to consult her policy document. It may be she loses 2 years NCD for the one claim, but the actual reduction is down to her insurance company

Generally it's two years' loss.

Thanks guys (and boxtops).

Seems she has to do what I already told her - read the policy.
