I want to buy an annual (covering worldwide) holiday insurance policy, easy I think. However my father has cancer, he may die tomorrow, he may live another 20 years, nobody knows, but the policies I read/have found will not insure me for cancelling or cutting short my holiday if a next of kin dies knowing of that kind of condition. Is this the case with every company, or does any one know of an insurance company that covers this. There must be loads of other people who have old/ill/infirm family members, but still travel. Thank you.

Have you tried looking at companies like Saga, or specialist insurers? A relative of mine had cancer and he managed to get insurance for himself when he travelled - it cost a lot but at least he could get it. Something like this one http://www.insurefory...eOt_asCFUoY4QodLVdnjw
I suspect that you'll find it very hard (if not impossible) to get cover.

However it might be worth trying this specialist broker, who finds insurance for people with illnesses or disabilities. (I recognise that's slightly different to your own problem but you'll be dealing with a firm which knows about insurers who have some flexibility in their policies):

Thanks, just to make it clear my father is not travelling, it's just me travelling, but just because of his illness, it seems I cannot get insurance to cover any incident about him, like coming home early etc.
I have had annual travel insurance for the last 20 years. As far as I`m concerned, the most crucial part of holiday insurance is cover for your own medical costs. I could be in the same situation as you. My mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer within the last three years. Although things seem to be OK (I hope I`m not tempting fate by saying that), equally she could keel over from some other medical event. What is the worst cost that you are going to have if the worst happens? The loss of your accommodation and an air fare home. As you say "there must be loads of other people who have old/ill/infirm family member, but still travel. Frankly, it`s not a problem. By the way, some (and I can vouch for one in particular) airlines have compassionate fares for situations where passengers need to get to the end of the world in a hurry due to bereavement or other such dire situations.
