reset is a Scottish legal term. The equivalent in English and Welsh law would be handling stolen goods.
sounds more like "receipt of stolen goods" to me!

Yes, reset is derived from the word receipt. But, under English and Welsh law receiving stolen goods and handling stolen goods are two different offences.

Reset would cover someone buying goods knowing that they were or were likely to be stolen for example. This is equivalent to handling.

In English  and Welsh law receiving is used to cover more involvement in criminal activity such as 'fencing' stolen property. It also carries a higher penalty. So. Although it is more similar in terms of the word derivation it is not the equivalent offence.
