If someone from outside the EU posts something via standard post to Ireland does the item go through the UK on its way to Ireland to be sorted or is it sorted in the country of postage and then sent directly to Ireland? I know this is a bit of a specific question but if anyone knows I would be appreciative.

Northern Ireland or RoI?

Republic thereof, sorry, probably should have made that clear.
Depends where it is coming from, mostly though it wouldn't go through the UK.
It wouldn't make sense to go through the uk, its a completely different country. If you sent mail to Canada you wouldn't expect it to go through the usa first would you?

Apparently the UK isn't the centre of the universe after all.
