Paypal problem.

I bought an oven off ebay last night and paid by paypal. The payment status says it will take at least seven days before payment is passed to the seller. I have apparently paid with an e-cheque, but I don't know how.

I have a debit card linked to my paypal account but no money in my paypal account - the cost of anything I buy is taken from the debit card.

I am reluctant to phone the helpline as it costs a fortune and I am a canny Yorkshire lass. But I think it's unreasonable to expect the seller to wait a week for payment.

I think the problem is something to do with the bank changing my card from a Maestro to a Visa, but I have always had a debit card linked to the paypal account and I have had years of trouble-free buying off ebay, with payments being instant (until now). I don't have any credit cards so I can't link a credit card to the account.

Can anyone give me any advice please? Thanks very much.

It all depends on how much the purchase cost, if it was a lot of money Paypal will make sure that they get the money from yoou BEFORE passing it on to the seller. so they tell the seller that you are paying with an e-cheque. If the amount is small, and there is probably a trigger on this, what happens if Paypal pays the seller before collecting the money from your bank account, this usually is about four days later. If you check back on previous purchases comparing the date/time of the payment (when you paid using Paypal) and when the money left your bank you will notice a four day delay in collecting the money from your bank.

Thanks very much quizman. I thought the cash went instantly from my debit card to Paypal, who in turn instantly paid the seller. The price of the item is £125 so it is quite a big amount.

Do you know anything about linking and confirming a card? (I have been trying to fathom Paypal payments out and I am as confused as ever).

Thanks again for reply.
Go on then.............show us a picture of your oven..........

Hiya craft. It's not an oven (my mistake) - it's just the chimney hood that I paid for by Paypal. (I bought the oven last night too, but that was from Dixons Online and I paid for that with my Visa debit card with no problem at all). It's just Paypal that I am having trouble with.

Anyhoo - here is a pic of the chimney hood ....

If I can manage a pic of the oven, I'll post it.
Very sexy mrs.c...............I've just got one of those crappy filter ones which don't do much :-(

(Hope that works!)
Looking good mrs.c.....I got my first ever electric oven and hob last year, as I've always used gas before and I must say I've been pleasantly surprised, Mine's a Belling with a Bosch glass ceramic hob (great for cleaning)
Question Author
I used to have a ceramic hob but I found it very difficult to control the heat. Perhaps I needed more practice (cooking's not really my strong point).
