I have asked this question in Home and Garden but am trying a different section as I haven't received a response to correct it.
I switched my security light off last year to work on it and I had a problem re-setting the PIR but I was told what to do to re-set it and it has worked fine until I fitted a new bulb in it. I switched it off at the mains but when I switched it back on it stays on permanently, I have tried switching it off for 30 mins and also 60 mins and switching it back on but neither has worked so if there are any brainy people out there I would be grateful for your assistance

Often its a case of switching on and off and on again in quick succession
Too many imponderables here....'you worked on it'....what's that supposed to mean? And why would turning it on and off make it work properly? If you know anything about Electronics you might be able to fix it! When a PIR stays on/off it is usually a sign of component failure. Suspect the Relay first, then check the load (current) resistor, which in your case, could have gone 'high'.There are other components to check too,but you will be expected to have a good knowledge in this field - otherwise give it to someone who has.
I find that if you lower the 'default' voltage of the bulb, the PIR will not give too many problems,as the manufacturers tend to work on the 'margins' when it comes to 'load' components - although quite safe! Also, you may well find that it could easily be much cheaper in the end to buy a new one!

Sorry ianmunt, turning it on and off in quick succession puts it in manual mode which is what it is in now as I suspect that my wife did this.
paintpowder1, when I said I worked on it I mean just that, I stripped it down to clean it up, when I switched it back on I put it in manual override and had to reset it which means that it is switched off for a certain length of time then switched back on again as this resets the PIR but it has to be done for a set time and I have forgtotten how long this was. I do all my wiring at home so have a fairly good idea of how things work but I am bamboozled this time
Is the relay switch that opens and closes the circuit to trigger the light adjustable ?
If it is, try a slight adjustment with a screwdriver which will make the setting less critical i.e Increase or decrease Voltage slightly. If the relay triggers both lights simultaneously then I would have a look at the actual wiring where it connects with the unit itself.
On one of mine you have to switch it on/off 3 times and leave it in the on position for it to activate the PIR.

I have tried everything suggested but to no avail so I'm going to fit a new one as I've given up as a bad job
I suggest you to call your installer. He will sort your problem. Instead of that i will suggest you to use video door phone. It is reliable and easy to install. I am using it in my home and i am satisfied with it.
