Im working on a wooden boom of a 18 century sail, boat and have to sand it back to the bare wood. The problem is that ive taken off all of the varnish but there are still black marks in the wood, i've sanded them by hand and machine and also used paint stripper but i cant get rid off them. Just wondering if anyone out there has any tips on how to get rid of them.....
Thanks in advance

Removing black water stains from wood is very difficult. If you don't succeed, painting the boom might be the best option from an appearance point of view. You could try the advice given here...

Good luck!
