I've had my landline phone for about 3 years now with not a hint of a problem. Suddenly the messages left on the answerphone are totally inaudible due to a very loud hiss.
I've unplugged it, checked the connections and all but thrown it at the wall, no joy.
Its a Southwestern Bell. Model SWB2300.
Any idea's. Everything else on it works just as normal.

don't hold back - bung it at the wall ... but put the bin under it first

I assume it doesn't use tape? - if yes ... a new tape or head clean

if no ... it's faulty - try it in another socket first ...

:) Once again, cheers AC. I tried your suggestion (the one about another socket)..... and now I'm gonna give your other suggestion (the wall one) a go...and thoroughly enjoy it too.
Sounds like a missing/faulty media filter.
If you have home broadband, you should have a media filter conncted to each socket that has a phone connected (including the answerphone).
