My handycam will not turn off!

I have a Sony HDR-UX3 handycam and it will not turn off at the on and off switch, to turn it off I have to remove the battery. The firt symptom was that it would not turn on without first removing the battery. I reset the unit and after a few more problems with with not turning on it eventually turned on ok but as stated willnot turn off.All other features of the camera appear to work. Help?
