Hi Everyone

Is it true that if a lady has divorced then she cannot remarry in a church?

Thanks

I don't it's the case that you cannot - i just don't think it's exactly welcomed by the church. I'm sure that you can but you'd probably have to know the vicar, be a church goer and have reasons for the first marriage failing - an affair not being a very good one! It's worth asking the vicar, at one time it wasn't done, then frowned upon and most people i know who have remarried have done it in a registry office.
yup, its the Vic's discretion. could offer to make a donation for the church. there always after new roofs.

My ex-wife got re-married in a church, but then again the vicar had been divorced and re-married also.

Why just a 'lady'?

It helps if one of the couple has not been married before.

Don't necessarily think it's just ladies willow, think it's goes for the blokes too, but like phantaxus says, chances will be better if only person has been divorced.
Hmmm apparently html still doesn't work then...

Great answers everyone thanks. Willow - I'm asking on behalf of a lady that's why.

Wraith - My Vicar has also so that might help!

Thanks again.

Obviously, from the answers, you are referring to the Church of England, which is appropriate to your country. Just wanted to add that most Protestant churches in the US have no problem with remarriage. Most, however, require counselling prior to the ceremony to assist in making the marriage lasting...
My brother in law and sister in law couldn't get married in a C of E church, as he was divorced, but they could at the Methodist Church.
It is the vicar's discretion, not the same I know, but the family of a friend of mine weren't allowed to have him buried at the church he'd attended all his life, because he commited suicide.
Clanad - What century or country are you living in if you think the Church of England "appropriate to your country"? The UK is enormously culturally and religiously diverse.
