I recently purchased a new printer (froma UK supplier) - but it came with a european plug - I was under the impression that UK electrical goods had to come fitted witha 3 pin plug - am I mistaken???

I've bought loads of stuff lately that comes with two pin plugs. Just another aspect of our european intergration I s'pose
I thought they had to have 3-pin plugs, too. Last article I bought with a 2-pin lead also had a 3-pin one.
Certainly not see the Tradings Standards website .... THE PLUGS AND SOCKETS etc. (SAFETY) REGULATIONS 1994 REQUIRES most electrical appliances intended for domestic use to be supplied pre-fitted with a standard 3-pin plug that is independently certificated as complying with British Standard BS1363. There are some exceptions to this such as electric cookers intended to be permanently connected to the main wiring in a house. Items fitted with a non-UK plug (e.g. a 2 pin Europlug) may be supplied provided they have been fitted with an approved 3 pin conversion plug which must enclose the fitted plug and can only be removed with the use of a tool.
Depends if you mean a european two pin plug or the bathroom style two pin plug there is a difference and it is legal two use bathroom style two pin plugs as long as the product requires no form of earthing.
Just noticed you brought a printer then if it had been supplied with a lead with a european plug on it then it should also have been supplied with a lead with a uk plug on it aswell....believe it or not this works out cheaper for the manufactuer as they dont have to pack up items specially for the uk....contact your supplier telling them you haven't got a lead with a uk plug on it as items sold in this country to be used in this country must be supplied with the correct specification plug.

thanks for the responses - I had a grumble at the supplier about the euro plug and pointed out what your responses (plus the quick start instructions weren't supplied in english either) and after waiting about a week they sent a UK power lead and plug and apologised. thanks, Iain
