High heel shoe foot damage costs NHS �29 Million!
The problems caused by high heel shoes cost �29 million a year in corrective foot surgery, figures have shown.
NHS consultant podiatrist Emma Supple, who led the study, said: "While we love our high heels, wearing them for prolonged periods is bad news for our health and wallets.
The study of 1,000 women, funded by shoe firm MBT, found almost half of women in Liverpool and Manchester wore heels all week long. It also found that four in ten women have had accidents in heels, with most suffering twisted ankles.

don't be a t1t Gromit, 29m is pi55 all, the NHS budget is over 70billion, 29m wouldn't pay for the surgeons coffee breaks. get it into perspective, besides if you clmp down on this what next? I mean they probably spend a few quid on all sorts of things caused by day to day wear and tear I mean lets ban hip ops I mean self inflicted all that walking about!

Regards the subject of 'High Heels' (Stilettoes), I think the problem is that there are more obese ladies these days.
Another fact is todays women do not seem to have the same deportment as women had in the past. They tend to walk much faster and with a certain masculine gait, which I imagine isn't the perfect way to walk when balancing on high heels.

Increased levels of happiness in men leads to a decrease in depression.
The total cost of depression in England among adults over 15 years old in 2000 is estimated at over �9 billion - but 72% of sufferers were women.
So men's depression costs the NHS �2.52billion according to those figures.
If only 5% of those men are cheered by a shapely ankle in stillettos then the savings to the NHS is a stunning �126,000,000 per year!

I would challenge the assumption that men in cars can actually see women's legs to the extent you suggest.
The majority of modern cars don't allow views below the waist, unless the person viewed is between 20 and 25 feet away, rendering the overall effect of the shapliness of the leg diminished.
