We have had a quote for replacing bathroom suite and doing the tiling. Everything will be in the same position as before, and we will be paying for all the fittings, etc. I would be grateful if anyone could give me a rough idea of the hourly rate that should be charged, or even a very rough estimate of the price for the job. Tiling would be about 11 sq yds.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could help.

Assuming that you have bought tiles and that the suite consists of the basic x3 items, ie bath\sink\loo, i would anticipate a weeks work, c100.00 per day, total 500.00. Hope that is helpful Sixpence.

Erdinger, thanks. That's very helpful. We are buying the tiles and it is a simple suite, no electric shower. He said it would be about a week's work and quoted 1,750. Quite a difference, eh?
We shall definitely get another quote.
Thanks again.
I will do it for 750.

Doc Spock, I'd even give you a bacon sandwich with your tea! You don't live in Wiltshire, do you?
My husband did it last time about 25 years ago, and although he can do it OK he can't get the tiling to look really professional, so he's promised me a "proper job" this time.
erdinger have you in the past or recently got a plumber or any tradesman to work for 100 per day? the ones i know want 250 to change a bathroom , old for new in the same positions, for a days work and would not touch tiles for love nor money
i am surprised at the figures you offered
Terence is nearer the mark with prices, I can only speak about sparkies, but most of my mates charge 200 per day

I know one plumber and he charges 150 per day, and he will charge that if it is more than a mornings work, good luck, Ray
Actual quotes I received ; to put in a new suite (supplied by me) and replumb to change the layout, tiling as well; 1300.

To do the above without tiling, plus replumb kitchen to include fitting sink, running supply and waste for wash machine and dish washer 700.

I hired the 700 team. They did some extra work including gas supply and fit a cooker. The bill? Still 700.

His firm are currently finishing installing 11 rad central heating, replumb of our large renovation property comprising 2 replanned bathrooms, plumbing and gas to our moved kitchen (even cutting hole and fitting hob), utility room and new downstairs wc. We have supplied sanitaryware and kitchen. Quote 5k. 2 plumbers on site most of 8 days. I am very happy with the price and the work.
It is not all price tho. The guys I have employed are part of a 5 man team. Although they are busy it means less of a wait for them than for a plumber working solo. And that is sometimes important.
My apologies re my quote which seems to have generated a little surprise reaction. Firsly, perhaps i should have stated that i am not a 'professional' plumber/tiler etc. However, in my own opinion and that of my many customers opinions, my work is equivelant to that of a 'professional'. I am a maintenance manager of a 17thc listed bulding in south Birmingham thus responsible for a wide range of issues, plumbing, painting , tiling etc, all my work has to be of a very high standard. In my own time i undertake work for householders\ buisnesses in my locality and as far as i am concerned the 100 per day is a fair rate. I know my own limitations and I often refuse work that i feel does require a PROFESSIONAL. Thanks.
