The center clock movement was wound up leaving too little cord to insert the pulley for the weights. How do I release the cord so I can pull it back out far enough to insert the pulley?

I had a similar problem with a grand father clock. I called a clock repair shop and explained my needs. They very nicely explained how to do this free of charge on the phone. GOOD LOOK !!!
