Hi all - I've got an HD-ready tv. Built in freeview too, it's great (Samsung LCD 32inch). World cup starts very soon - but is my tv completely ready for it? Despite the tv being hd-ready, do I need special cabling, an adapter of some sort or does the HD signal come throught the aerial cable? Advice appreciated!

Sorry to break it to you, but your going to need to get a sky+ HD receiver to watch the HD broadcasts (even the BBC HD broadcasts).

HD is not going to be broadcast over the air for quite some time due to bandwith restrictions so this is really your only option.
or via cable

Worse still, the much hyped 'World Cup - In High Definition' adverts that have been used to encourage people to invest in these TV sets, have become a deep embarrassment to Sky.

There is a global shortage of the decoders needed to translate HD images, and the majority of the people who had placed orders for the equipment in order to watch the World Cup have now been told they won't receive them until some time in August!

Currently they cost around 300 with an additional subscriber charge of 10 per month.

Nemesis - what is your source for that info ?

The AV forums i visit haver loads of people who already have hd.My installation was put back from 29/05/06 to 12/06/06...so i miss a couple of games but no biggy.

I would anticipate August as the current availability date for people wishing to move up to hd now.

Mattk,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I've been out most of the day. Here is a link to the related information (I hope it works, but if not you'll find reports on the BBC website, entertainment section, under 'sky HD runs into trouble'.

Hopefully, you may not be affected, but I'd be tempted to enquire as soon as possible to prevent getting pushed down the list.

Kind Regards

Nemesis.
