In fact, the word covers it.

//A principality (or sometimes princedom) can either be a monarchical feudatory or a sovereign state, ruled or reigned over by a regnant-monarch with the title of prince and/or princess, or by a monarch with another title considered to fall under the generic meaning of the term prince.//

thanks mamya
although this sentence intrigues me "a regnant-monarch with the title of prince and/or princess" who would have the title of both prince AND princess?
Indeed :-)
Surely then we are a Queendom not a Kingdom.
//A queendom is a specific kind of monarchist country usually where the crown travels down the female line to the eldest female heir first unless there are no female heirs.//

Our Monarchy doesn't work like that.
Bizarre as it might sound our Queen is actually the King. Hence Philip's just being the Duke hence Albert just being the 'Prince Consort'. Technically she is King Elizabeth the Second! Just like King Victoria the First. But countries have different ways of doing this eg Nederlands or Sweden or Norway nowadays according to revolution and constitution and tradition. There is no one 'spray on' system. Principality is derived from the Latin word 'princeps' which meant to the Romans 'big army boss man' we get 'prince' from it but not 'Prince and the Revolution' and raspberry beret. The Roman Emperors were 'Princeps'.
Ah but she's only Queen Elizabeth the first in Scotland!
blimey
we are genderising something not intended to be er genderised
( my new word)

Prince comes from princeps

Latin word meaning "first in time or order; the first, foremost, chief, the most eminent, distinguished, or noble; the first man, first person". As a title, "princeps" originated in the Roman Republic wherein the leading member of the Senate was designated princeps senatus.

gels not allowed in the senate. Not even Livia ( wife of Augustus ) or Domitilla wife of nero made it

Daughters of Henry VIII - were 'leddy' - Lady Elizabeth n Mary even tho the brother was a prince

The first princesses were - - dd of George III - imported from Germany apparently
title not gurlz

This is a " is a female landlord, a landlady?" type q
// Ah but she's only Queen Elizabeth the first in Scotland!//
no sorry we have had all this - a few times

Francis - Popey I agree not queen - when elected ( habemus papam etc)(*) the fluffy little Beeb hack trilled "Pope Francis I !" - nay squealed in Roman ecstasy
and senior Beeb hack quickly pointed out that the first is never er enumerated

But wait - - - James VI and I was King in 1603 - and he had a whole new Act all to himself ( Titular Act 1604) where the Kingdom was Great Britain and the title was James VI and I

and so..... When our dear Queen ( Gawd bless and preserve us from Harry and That Thing!) acceded, she had her won Titular Act - right after her own Regency Act (+) and that specified Elizabeth II of United Kingdom. ( uvvawise first of scortland, second of england and first of united kingdom of the usual )

(*) statutory bit of Latin
(+) Regency Act to avoid the chaos of 1936 which was very fresh in everyones minds

and whatever happens it will be Charles de ferd - Stuart kings were kings of scotland
Where's Ferd?
