Will it be on a channel that everyone can watch as it is probably the greatest English tennis match ever. I have Amazon prime but it should be open to everyone

Nope, only on Amazon Prime. They bought exclusive rights to it. Although there is a 30 day free trial for Prime atm, so anyone can get it and cancel before the deal expires.

it was suggested earlier Amazon Prime might reach agreement with a free-to-air channel. but it now sounds like avarice has got the better of them.

but BBC have acquired the rights to show highlights on Sunday.

I'd hazard an educated guess that the main channels did not expect any of the Brits to shine at Flushing Meadow and therefore thought it unnecessary to bid for any of the rights to screen. Just because a British player has reached the final, gollob, does not mean "it should be open to everyone."
If Channel 4 do not succeed in their bid to screen the final, take Mozz's advice visa vie the free month's trial with Amazon.
