Yes
As long as you are out of contact on your current providers, and don't have to wait.

You would probably find that a laptop tethered to a mobile isn't as fast as a normal router

Mine was faster. Depends on the broadband and mobile phone package you purchase, and the strength of tower signal where you live.
whistonian, turn the wifi off on your phone and do a speed test. That way you will know if the speed is going to be fast enough for everything.
Whenever my wifi goes down I turn my phone in to a wifi hotspot and connect my pc and iPad - I get decent speeds of around 60 Mbps
If your laptop has wifi functionality, then yes.
Every laptop has wifi, OG. They are designed to be used on the move :) If whistonian's hasn't it should be donated to a museum of technology :)

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies. Barry I did as you suggested and although I have never had a problem with D/L speed I got a surprisingly low figure of 6Mpbs.
That is fartoo slow. Try it again and then again with a different speed checker. Try it in different rooms and outside.
I use this one https://www.speedtest.net/
