My card seems to have stopped working and I now have to enter my pin manually. I have ordered another card but have no idea why my current card can no longer be 'read'.

Any ideas?

i read somewhere that contactless cards are sometimes blocked for a period for security reasons?

When cards have been used contactless a lot, banks will, at random, decline access until a pin is used. It is a security feature to ensure it is your possession.
Does that fit your circumstances?

Thank you all. Now I know why. I wish I'd asked before ordering a new card.
Got near a strong magnetic field ?
Since most retailers in the current crisis prefer contactless payments I find that increasingly often I'm asked to input my pin number. Quite understandable especially as the limit has been raised to £45.
I had been using my neighbour's contactless card to do her weekly shop at Tesco - limit there still only £30, so I had to do it in two transactions. Last week it was refused and I was asked to put the PIN in, but of course I didn't know it. Tesco were very good and put the items through the till and I rang my neighbour from their service desk and got her PIN. It's just a security measure after a certain number of transactions.
Ask your bank.
