I know it’s said that face masks are ineffective against Coronavirus but since everyone on the front line seems to wear them they must be useful at least. A little protection is surely better than none. I’ve looked on Amazon and haven’t a clue which to buy. Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

Masks have a N, a P and FFP rating. The best protection for general purchase are FFP3 P3 N99 rated masks.

masks probaby do have some effect. Also, they remind you not to touch your face.

You shouldn’t be buying any! They should all be going to the NHS.
Yes, they are definitely recommended if you are caring for someone and have to breathe close to each other's face. They are also a good idea if you have to stand close to people on a train or in a supermarket queue. They are more help to others than to you if you have the virus.
I'm not sure they make any difference if you are just out walking the dog/exercising.
You'd hope the NHS procurement people would have thought of looking on Amazon.

They also seem to make a lot of people touch their faces; I have seen lots of people adjusting them in the street and in shops. If you are going to use one you really need to use it properly.

Which is best? That's the question.
I'd have thought a burka should also be effective, although Iran's experience of Covid casts some doubt on that/ They are easy to get hold of though.
The best masks must be the NHS ones. we need someone who works for the NHS who can tell us who supplies them
Masks are only effective within 2 meters of another human. If you observe social distancing, you don’t need one.

I would like one, zacs. I simply want to know which is the best.
Why do you still want one in light of my comments? In addition, CV can get to you through your eyes, hence the full face plastic visors now being used by medical staff.

I'll make my own mind up thanks, Zacs.
Yes, you seem to have an inherent ‘skill’ for doing that, no matter how many facts are presented to you. Time you stopped as it just makes you look daft, or ignorant (or both).

Mind your own business.
You could always make your own.

It's now compulusory in Austria to wear masks in supermarkets, you won't get in without one.

Luca, I'm not good at sewing. I'd rather buy one - but thanks for the information. Interesting.

Thanks very much, archibaldy. I'll have another look at Amazon.
Good luck in purchasing one though. They are around £60 each and out of stock everywhere!
