The sound on my computer has suddenly started coming from hard drive instead of external speakers. The speaker power light is on but for the life of me (and I've spent several hours) I cannot find out how to correct this. If it's relevant it's a Dell with Dell external speakers. Can I ask that any help is given in "idiot proof" language, my computer knowledge is basic. Many thanks.

There was another recent thread on this, suggestions from memory were to check speakers using another sound source i.e. radio and check computer settings.

Sound doesn't come from Hard Drives, unless they are about to fail.
Make and model of pc/laptop plus what version of O/S your using.

if the speakers are plugged in properly then the internal speaker should be muted - check your connections.
Hmmm. Probably coming from the internal speaker. Drives don't tend to have diaphragms. I'd agree with Dave; check the external speaker connections.
