I've bought some spinning led multicolour lamps for my twin nephews bedrooms.
The lights are great, however, as the plastic dome spins, it emits a sort of squeak/hum sound every second or two.
i think its similar to when you rub a finger around the rim of a glass and it sometimes it vibrates just right and chimes.
But obviously this is just annoying and unsuitable for bedrooms - its loud enough to be annoying.

Problem is, i haven't much time to return and get something else
So, has anyone any ideas what i can do to stop this?
without ruining or making a mess of them of course, as if i cant stop it i'll have to return them.

the dome is attached, so not sure how i can access the rims just yet, going to try tomorrow, if anyone has any ideas of how to stop it

thanks for your help :)

A small spray of wd40 or some candle wax would be my first try

thanks - ill try wax i think, dont want the smell of wd40 lingering, with them being for kids

if that doesnt work i might try vaseline or cooking oil perhaps

i was thinking if i should rough up the surfaces a bit, but dont want it to affect the motion
WD 40 would be better, it only requires a little bit, you can spay a bit onto a cloth and use that.
Mr Sheen. Has silicone, a good lubricant.
That'll do it too.
Something's rubbing. Can you investigate and fix ?
Failing that there are plastic lubricants one can buy.
Joko anything that lubricates until moving parts bed together, then just occasionally when noisy

thanks all

the sound is literally the edges of the plastic dome, spinning on its base and rubbing against the plastic base, its not mechanical parts making the noise.
Joko you still nee to lubricate, maybe some vasiline will work? Nothing ventured nothing gained, and if you think the noise will be annoying I would give it a try, just applying a small amount using a cotton bud. If worst comes to worst, you'll have to buy something else and return them after Christmas. To maybe give you some more advice can you post website connection of where you got them, "a picture is worth a thousand words"
Should have read a small amount of vasaline lol
