Listening to the news regarding drugs weapons and mobile phones . why doesn't the prison service have search dogs like yiu see in airports etc . Send them into every nook and cranny every day . Just a thought but seems a simple thing to manage .The dogs love their job too .

Sniffer dogs ARE already used in prisons. I've seen them on television and I've just had a quick look online. One dog, a spaniel, got an award earlier this year for sniffing out £45,000 worth of Spice.

Oh well that is good news perhaps more dogs are needed as it must be a very big task .

I've been visiting in a prison and the sniffer dogs sniffed every single visitor.

They probably would if they had the manpower, time and resources.
But prisons are huge places with plenty of hiding places for contraband.
My local nick is HMP Dovegate and houses over a thousand prisoners.
Larger prisons such as HMP Wandsworth have populations of over 1800. Cell searches happen everyday but theres just no way to search the cells of that many prisoners on a regular basis. And its not just cells that contraband would be hidden in, within prison grounds are chapels, gyms, exercise yards, showers, libraries, workshops etc.
