The Handwheel And Feed Dogs On My Singer Sewing Machine Move But The Needle Won't - Nothing To Do With Bobbin Winder So What Can It Be?

Plugged my sewing machine in and sewed happily for half an hour or so and then.... the needle suddenly refused to move! Have oiled it as it says in the manual and cleaned the bobbin case but no joy.
Any ideas on what it might be. IT IS NOT THE BOBBIN WINDER - that works fine and I've made sure it's now in the off position (wouldn't have been able to sew at all if that was the case.
All ideas gratefully received - it's a singer xl-10

Sounds like the needle has come loose, try lifting needle up between your fingers and then re tighten the screw or change the needle it may have bent.
Hope this helps
