I sliced my finger nail off 7 weeks ago and have had a wound that will not heal. It has a bump/blister has appeared in place of the nail. This weeps and bleeds then hardens then softens and goes up and down. Have occasionally bathed in weak dettol. Had some antibiotics first week of June. It has been painful again over last few days and I think maybe it has got infected again. I have had Non waterproof plasters on this. Medical person who I know advised some silver nitrate to cauterize. Can you give your advise please?

This will take time to heal as granulation tissue seems to be already well established.
Treatment will consist of antibiotic creams e.g Bacitracin ointment and occlusive dressings.

Silver nitrate cauterization is one option depending upon the size of the area.

Go to the doctor again, for goodness' sake - just keep self-medicating.

I agree with boxy (although i think she meant to type, "don't keep self medicating") as the antibiotic cream needs a prescription.
I had a bump like this on a scar where I sliced my thumb open on a plate. It was there for a couple of years, very sensitive and kept splitting and bleeding. In the end I had it cut out as an outpatient....totally successful

Thanks all, I'll get back to the docs for some cream. I didn't fancy cauterization coz its sore enough as it is.
Sorry about slow reply , had to reboot as I'm having problems!
Thanks again all of you.
Regards nabob
Good luck with it nabob, I hope it heals soon. It does sound painful.

How did you manage to do it?

Sharp kitchen knife!
Not nice nabob. I nearly severed my little finger off a couple of years ago and it took ages to heal....I really hope it heals up soon. It's so bloody inconvenient as well

Yes it will take ages, not helped either by actually working in a kitchen!
