Is it possible to join 2 metal curtain poles for a long window. My lounge window is 16' 5" (197") and I have been searching for a curtain pole to fit. I wondered if it is possible to join 2 shorter ones?

Yes it is .. Are they wood or steel?
Either needs a sleeve of steel over the diameter. It needs to be a tight fit and is best pushed together on the floor and glued with araldite or polyurethane foaming adhesive.
Measure the diameter with a caliper or make a hole in something rigid to match the pole size (so the pole just pushes through)
Look here .. They do 28mm and 35mm (standard pole sizes) joiners

Failing that, go to a local steel fabricator or engineering shop and ask for a piece of tube to join it. (About 4" long should be ok if a tight fit)
PS. You might need another support bracket over the joiner, particularly if fabric full or heavy. Fix dead centre.
