Something a bit like a pepper?

I was in New Zealand recently and one of the common ingredients down there was a pale green vegetable, similar in colour to a lettuce heart. It tasted very similar to a pepper, a bit like a yellow pepper but without the slightly sweet taste. I only ever saw slices of it but it appeared to be a bit longer than a pepper and didn't have a skin on it. Anyone got any idea what it was?

it probably was a variety of capsicum (pepper) they come in all colours and shapes, from chili shaped but a lot bigger, you can get anything from very, very pale yellowy green, through to orange, red, 'black' which is more an aubergine very dark purple colour.

Thanks for that. You can tell I'm not a cook, I thought they just came in red, yellow and (dark) green.
