When I bought my goosedown duvet some 5 years ago it was thick, fluffy, warm & tog rating 15. It's now all floppy, thin & I'm having to supplement it with good old fashioned blankets. Does down deteriorate over the years? Do feathers flop and flatten?

Do I get a new quilt or have a hot man in my bed more often during the cold nights?

New quilt- if you get a man, you'll only have to talk to him....eventually. So not worth the effort.
You don't specify if it is the duvet that is all 'floppy and thin' and in need of the blanket supplement.

Also, better an electric blanket than a wet blanket for company at night. Ancient Irish proverb, or something.

I'm scared of electric blankets since I set fire to one once. Very disconcerting that was. I like the proverb though - and very true.

Decision made:- new quilt.
I ♥ my electric blanket
You were so cold that you had to have afire to bed with you? Where do you live... Siberia?
Question Author
Maybe these days electric blankets are safer. The one I used & set fire to the bed with was ancient, I must admit. I shall stick to my new quilt, bed socks and furry hot water bottle cover. I only like a man at weekends.
it must be safe, it takes about 2 hours to warm up!
A bit like the men in your life, eh?
thanks salla.......you've just reminded me I've still got the summer duvet on.......

Where did the word 'tog' come from - anyone know?
Everyone knows that. It's Terry's Old Geezers, innit?
