At what point during the restoration of a derelict property do you have to start paying council tax on it? I am buying a plot of land which has an old uninhabitable house on it which I plan to restore over the next couple of years.

When you move into it.
Other than that, if you gain temporary PP for a caravan on the site whilst you do it, you will probably find you get rated at Band A for that.

Depends entirely on the local council's rules. Some have ''no occupancy - no council tax'', others have the same rule but impose a time limit if the property's habitable. Contact your local council for a definitive answer.
Hold off getting the water connected - hey presto it's not habitable !
but, yeah, check with the council.
