My son has just moved into his first flat, and he's discovered that the previous occupants had placed a table to cover a very nasty orange stain on the cream carpet. Could anyone recommend an effective carpet cleaning miracle that he could try? He doesn't know what the stain is, so is unable to give more information. Many thanks.

Mr Muscle do a great trigger spray solution in a blue bottle for carpet and soft furniture, I believe it is the multi surface cleaner. I swear by this stuff. good luck

Many thanks Elaine. I've emailed him the details and he'll nip into Tesco on his way home from work this evening.
If that doesn't work try WD40. Spray on leave for a minute, rub gently then go over with a damp cloth.
A very good carpet cleaner is Perrier!! gets off many a stain... try it!
I use to have a cream carpet and always found the stain devils range really good..I'd then go over it with the Bex Bissell carpet cleaner and that got everything out.. You can hire carpet cleaners from lots of places...

Thank you all very much for your suggestions. I have emailed my son so he can make a choice what he wants to do. Coccinelle, I'm sure you advised me the last time I posted a plea regarding what to do with a chimney as we were installing a wood burner. The chimney slips look fantastic!!!
lakeland do a wonderful spray can of carpet stain remover, removed everything i've ever used it on. chemdry do a very similar one too, also in a spray can like a small fire extinguisher. i highly recommend both of these and have found them to be far better than all those available in the supermarkets. we have light stone coloured carpets and have had red wine stains and ground-in chocolate gateau completely removed by these products.
Hi Lucienne
Glad you found a solution to your problem. You'll be coming on next asking how the bricks or stones are cleaned!!!
I always have a tin of Xanto carpet foam in the house for any eventuality. It`s only a 1 a tin from Savers and will remove almost anything, but not if the stain is Irn Bru. That is impossible to remove.
Just a thought .If the flat is privately rented did you inform the owners in case you get charged for marking the carpet when your son leaves. Be ok if you get the mark out.
We tried almost every product under the sun to get stains out of our carpet when we moved in. None of them got the stains out.

We got a man with a machine to come and clean the carpet and that was the only thing to remove the stains! Along with about half a pint of carpet cleaning products that we had tried that had soaked into the underfelt !
