I have stripped the wallpaper which has been on for years (way before I lived in the house). Underneath being plaster. I have painted the wall, but the paint is peeling off. However, above the picture rail, the paint is not peeling. Any ideas why the paint is peeling and what I can do to prevent it? Many thanks

Maybe the paint on the bottom part was an oil-based paint and you've emulsioned it?????????
People years ago painted the bottom so any marks could be cleaned away easily
Hi Amber, if it was bare plaster did you make sure all the paste from the paper was off the wall before you put emulsion on. The other thing it could be is that the first coat on bare plaster needs to be watered down so that it seals the wall. Otherwise the emulsion will dry out too fast and that will cause it to peel.
