I plan to install a 1200x900mm tray onto floorboards and the plumbing will fit below the boards.
Any suggestions as to the best material for a tray? There seems to be so much choice!!
Thanks in advance

Don't know where you've been looking but I thought there were 2 basic types:
1 - resin 'moulded' types
2 - flimsy fibreglass types
1 is more expensive but far better.

Resin type trays areby far the better option, they are far more robust than GRP (Fibreglass) and are not as has been suggested more expensive, these are merely bedded and levelled on the floor with ceramic tile adhesive.
You can obtain one throgh a Plumbers merchant for around 70 - 80 Mira Flight is a good one check out thier site "Mira Showers"
