anybody know of a cheap supplier for replacement top/bottom racks. I contacted Hotpoint but they want �70 each .Any ideas appreciated

Have you tried a local independent?
I would actually go with that, these are far more expensive!:

Thanks, Adam, it would seem more economical to purchase a new budget dishwasher. Who dreams up the price of parts?

In answer to your question a budget slimline would be around the same cost as the two racks, so its 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. Bear in mind, though the cheaper dishwashers now are Chinese imports that are worth around �45, probably even less than that, so are extremely unreliable, so i think i'd stick to the hotpoint, as old as it is, its definietely better than these cheaper ones.

As for who marks the part prices, thats all down to the Merloni company who own Hotpoint
