Hanging heavy object on wall?

I live in a new build flat and I think the walls are made from plaster board.

The 'welcome pack' told me not to put anything on the wall weighing over 15kg.

I have an 18kg mirror approximately 160cm wide. It has a kind of hook at each top corner. Does that mean I'm basically putting up two 9kg objects?

Does that make any difference? And is the 15kg limit really the developers playing extra safe?

Every 18 inches there is a wooden joist if you screw at least 1screw into the joist the weight will not matter

You can buy a little electronic sensor. Or, much cheaper, you can make a series of puncture holes (not more than 2" apart) with a fine bradawl.
But there are metal anchors which screw into the plasterboard which will hold your 9kg if you do it carefully.

As a kitchen fitter this is a problem I often come across when fixing wall units to plaster board walls. Some internal walls are built using Paramount boarding which was very common through the seventies to the nineties and comprises of a cardboard interior sandwiched between 2 sheets of 1/2" plaster board. If this is what you are up against, you are waisting your time looking for timber studwork as all you will find is a verticle batten every 4ft.
If you go to your local builders supplier you can purchase pigs-tails which is a nickname for a dry-wall fixing which is what I always use when faced with this problem, it is very simple to use an very strong, but make sure you buy the aluminium ones and not the plastic ones.
