Is there any way to prove that a landlord is genuine and that they own the property without viewing or meeting in person? Should they sign the rental agreement before we pay the deposit?

You can check who the owner of a property is by contacting the Land Registry and paying a very small fee. You can do this online.

But, please think very carefully about this. If it seems too good a deal to be true then it probably is. Don't sign up to rent any property without seeing it first. From what you've said previously I'd strongly recommend walking away from this one.

I would recommend you rent a property using an agent/management company. make sure you view the property and have a read through the rental agreement thoroughly as there may be hidden clauses in there.
