ground hazelnuts

i need to make a cake with ground hazelnuts. i suspect that i won't be able to find any at my local shop (morrisons) but i guess i will be able to find whole hazelnuts. can i grind them myself in a blender? or will it not be as fine as i could buy from the shops?

I think the blender would do fine, maybe just pulse it to get all the nuts included, or you could put them in a plastic and bash them with the rolling pin, very theraputic.
Hi Lorrymac, You can buy chopped hazelnuts from Tesco. I buy these to put in my home-made pesto - which I then use when I make my own Peshwari Naan Bread. They are chopped very fine, and wouldn't be too hard to grind a little finer in a blender. What are you making?

I noticed those online - can't guarantee my local one has then though as it's small. i'm making nigella lawsons Nutella Cake as a birthday cake for a friend. she has no idea i'm making a cake so i wanted it to be something a bit special!
