Any ideas how is the best way to remove half a dozen small oil/grease splashes/marks from a redish thin cotton top without boil washing the colour out?

You could try blotting paper and an iron. Cover splashes with blotting paper, place hot iron on to the paper and as the whole thing heats up the blotting paper absorbs the oil or grease. I have done this in the past and found it works well. Good luck
Neat washing up liquid applied to the marks, rub gently then throw in the washing machine.
It works after a couple of washes usually.
Im with cruella on this one!!, Fairy is best!!
