How best to clean bed headboard

Last year we bought a bed with a padded fabric headboard. It's not very practical and has stained a bit due to the dogs and grease marks from our heads. I've tried sponging it but its not very effective. Anyone any ideas on how best to tackle it? I thought maybe one of those steam cleaners, anyone tried them? All suggestions welcome

Bearworld1 - Have you tried a hand held steamer? They are not too expensive, or may be your friends may have one?
