I recently purchased the above plant and gave it a good soak and left it, as I had read. It is positioned in a very sunny position however the leaves are all going brown and some of the petals as well. I thought I had over watered it so have repotted it and been sparing with the water and now the new shoots are also going brown!
I love this plant and am devastated I am going to loos it.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

Bourganvillia is a Mediterranean plant so I'm wondering if you were a little too generous with the water as you suspected. It's possible that some disease is attacking the roots. It might be worth taking it back to the garden centre and asking if they will replace it, although if you've repotted it, they probably won't. Has it been exposed to some low temperatures recently, or cold wind? That might have shocked it. Probably all you can do is put it in a dry warm place and see if it recovers.
My bougainvillia is watered every day through summer and is doing fine. They do like water but not standing in it.
