Many years ago I read about a company (ex-policemen? Servicemen?) that set up a company that produced a report about an area where you were thinking about buying a house. So, beyond the flowery-painted picture that the estate agents would like to sell you, these people would spend a few days (and nights!) investigating your possible new neighbourhood, looking at possible noise, troublespots, etc. etc. and produce a report for you.
As we are thinking about moving, can anyone point me in the direction of such a company, as I can't remember any details or names and an internet search hasn't come up with a 'hit'
