I haven't been on holiday (ie- abroad, sun etc) in 15 years. I am thinking I would really benefit from a weeks holiday to recharge, escape from mundane life and be away from the phone/ PC / TV for a while. It is because I work too hard and don't ever switch off that I am now getting serious symptoms. My Doc has told me I need to make time for myself.
Any ideas where would be a good place to go- pref quite cheap and not TOO hot! Thanks

If you are not good at switching off I would recommend you look at a holiday that has plenty of excursions to go on or go for a gentle, not too hectic tour. It really takes your mind off things.

Andalucia in Spain is really nice to tour - Granada, Seville, Cordoba. Or Lake Garda - there are some nice hotels with pools & tips out around the lake & to Verona & Venice.

Turkey has lots to see and is very reasonably priced but don't go after mid June if you don't like hot weather.
The Italian Riviera is wonderfully relaxing. Ryanair offer really cheap flights to Genoa. (The last time I went it was 49p each way). The express bus to the railway station is really cheap. Then you can get one of the frequent cheap trains that run along the coast. (That rail line provides an excellent, hassle-free way of exploring the area for very little cost). All you need then is to find yourself a reasonably-priced hotel at somewhere like Santa Margherita (which still has the 'classy' reputation it acquired in the days when Liz Taylor and Richard Burton used to holiday there) or my personal favourite, Rapallo. (It's a lovely town, with good beaches, great restaurants, a lively market, friendly bars and plenty of opportunities for excursions such as the boat trip to the billionaire's resort of Portofino).

your doc sounds sensible! I'm not sure just one week will reverse the symptoms of 15 years. But it depends what sort of holiday you'd like. If you just want to lie in the sun, Britain is full of tour operators offering cheap packages to the Med, but skip midsummer when it's at its hottest and most crowded. If you prefer to go sightseeing, consider a city break somewhere in Europe where you can stroll the streets, browse shops etc but entirely at your own speed. Or you can mix the two as JK2 suggests; many resorts have lots of possible excursions which you can take or not as you please.

Good luck, whatever; after 15 years it's the least you deserve.
