They're planted as bulbs in the fall and will come up the next spring... usually fairly early, depending on the temperature. They will continue to grow each spring, but the bulbs should be dug and separated each two or three years to make for better plants. Try planting them with some tulips mixed in but perhaps two inches deeper than the daffodils. The daffodils will come up first, followed by the tulips as the daffodils begin to fade...

So no chance of planting them now ready for April this year?! Ooops, think we left it a little late. We're getting married in 7 weeks and I've only just decided to have daffodils! Will we still be able to get hold of daffodils at florists in 7 weeks time?

Thanks Clanad for your prompt reply.
You could cheat by buying a few tubs or pots of daffs that are already well up, If they have been grown outdoors you can just ease them out of the pots and sink them into the ground in clumps. If they have been started indoors you need to choose a sheltered spot or harden them off a little. A little more expensive but a few clumps would be very cheery!
