Can anyone tell me if i need permission from anybody, to chop a large Fir tree, down,at the bottom of my garden. The way it has grown over the years,it has slowly pushed the fencing out of shape to the point now that it is desparately in need of replacing.

Check with the Council. There may well be a 'tree preservation order' on it.

I agree with Toglet.. check with your local council office. Even without a preservation order on it, they are reluctant to allow folk to chop down trees.
You may well do. However i have to say that once upon a time my family moved into a new hous which had a HUGE tree growing adjacent to a fence, shaded the whole garden and house to boot. being well aware that teh council wouldn't lett hem chop it down if askedm they just chopped it down without asking and pleaded ignorance. I guess it just depends how much you like the tree.
