I am planning a new kitchen - and am keen to find a maker of kitchen units that have sliding doors . Does anybody out there know of any company that does this?
I have looked round the obvious sites with no luck. I always think kitchen unit doors are a hazard if left open and the older one gets...the greater the chance of having an accident. Any sugs anybody... I would be very grateful.

Hi
I am very interested to know why you want that type of door because as an old joiner I dont really know of any advantages , the biggest disadvantage would probably be the cost as I suspect you will need to have them made especially for you
Sorry
Now I have read the question in full . You should try to find someone who will use the old bases and fit new sliding doors which will be made of thin ply or similar and track that you can get almost anywhere
I understand your desire for this but urge you to reconsider. Two reasons: 1) You are going against the flow by doing this - there is little or no demand for such a design these days, so you have to have it made bespoke for you. This in turn will cost you more than it would otherwise have. 2) If you eventually decidse you move on into a smaller property, such doors will probably reduce the attractiveness / value of your kitchen to anyone elese, because they will consider they have to strip out and start again.

Many thanks to you both for your answers and suggestions. I take on board all points BUT...I am thinking of my own safety. My house is 150 years old, the kitchen is tiny, I am only 5'2" and have had sliding doors for 30+ years here and in every other house before. As an ex nurse I have seen the damage that an open unit door can do..believe me, it is not a pretty sight! However, it looks like I will have to give in and learn to duck!!!! This house will not be "sold" and as for who comes after me...I couldn't care less...they will have to carry me out feet first... so it won't be my problem!
