It kinda of depends on several factors... but, having said that, the quckest, surest way of gaining a new lawn is laying sod. Even this needs some extra care for the first several weeks, especially water... takes a lot. Good lawns can be obtained from seeding, but one really has to know what they are doing...

Good luck!

I agree with clanad, for instant effect alone, turf gets my vote, the only real disadvantage would be the initial cost. most turf turf sold to "joe public" is a fairly hard wearing seed mix and will suit most situations. Before and after care must also be considered ie can you use a hose on it ?

Seed, if time is not of the essence a good cheaper way is seeding, it can be sown at any time of the year but will germinate when its good and ready, one advantage is if you have a shady area to grass over, you can select your seed type to suit the situation. Seed is also useful for patching small areas in established lawns.

Both will need lots of water to get established.

Good Luck.
