I am going onto a tariff which guarantees me 100% renewable electricity ( not because I care about such things it was cheaper). Since my electricity comes down the same cable as my  neighbour (who isn't on a renewable tariff ) how can they make such a guarantee?

They can't, it is a ludicrous statement.  They can promise that the money you pay them will buy renewable energy, but who knows where 'your' electricity goes?

You must have different meters. And electricity on the grid is just electricity, there can be no distinguishing.

The guarenee is that they generate sufficient energy from "green sources" and add it to the grid to cover whatever their customers use, and that's sufficient. Their supply covers the energy you use.  You don't get guaranteed to have the same electrons they pushed in.

...guarantee...

My lot come round with a bowser & I collect the green leccy in a bucket!🤣
