Not a joke. Just received photo from daughter. Second time...previously in June. Tail is visible. She said its moving. They live in a ground floor maisonette in London. There's been a lot of building work near them.

I imagine this needs reporting...who to?

Does she rent or own the property?

Question Author

They own.

I think it very intelligent to know where it is meant to go. Does it pull the flush afterwards ?

Phone the council and ask them to recommend a pest control service

Get non return valves installed so rats can't get in

Report to the water company, whoever deals with sewage.

Question Author

I hope not...it's one of those top buttons...

Question Author

Thanks Barry...I just sent her an article that outlines exactly that.

In the meantime keep the toilet lid closed with a weight on top when not in use

Perhaps try using one or more of those toilet cleaner blocks in your cistern, might deter them.

Stick a full bottle of bleach down there thst will sort it.

Not for long, though

Would bleach kill a rat?

Yep.

I'm pretty sure the bleach would deter rats.

It for sure wont be able to stay in the toilet, the fumes alone will burn its eyeballs out. Must be a full bottle, open window for fumes to escape the house/ bathroom.

I wonder if their elderly cat would catch it?? 🤔

Cats don't often tackle rats - you need terrier dogs.
