A few weeks ago a hedge near my home was grubbed up in preparation for flood defense work. Before that when I'd walked past it I'd hear the chatter of Sparrows. I don't know where they live now but they have become regular visitors to my garden. They can eat their way through some peanuts. Just now they're getting through 800gr each day. When Winter comes , and other sources of food are scarcer, how much will they need?

When I lived backing onto the countryside I used to have to refill my large long feeder 2-3 times a day. It attracted birds I had never seen in my life before or since. Just refill it when it's empty, they'll let you know.
Bless them and you.
nearly a kilo of peanuts EVERY DAY?

Are you sure it's not being ambushed by pigeons?
My daughter's school has a bird feeded and whenever i pick her up its only pigeons that are there and if any littler bird tries to come, tough luck!
