I have had central heating fitted with a combi boiler, I would now like to get a shower. My friend has kindly offered to fit one for me, but I dont have to 1st clue how to go about choosing one to buy other than a power shower isn't suitable.

So I would be grateful of any advice you can give me..

You only need a mixer shower and depending on your budget you can have manual or thermostatic controlled. Easiest to fit is surface mounted where you need a hot and cold supply to the mixer and the showerhead is attached by a hose. Ask the retailer if your choice is suitable for a combi.
If i were you i would check when you buy it (preferrably from a recognized merchant) that it is compatible with your particular make of combi (take in details when you buy)
You`l not go far wrong with a Mira Excel, bit on the expensive side but well worth its money
